Common Allergens

Chicken and beef, the proteins in most commercial treats, are the two most common food allergens for dogs. NOT HERE!

Here's what we put in. And why.

Most treats are made from the proteins causing the problem. Every ingredient in the Novel Treat is here because it does a job without triggering an allergy.

Black soldier fly larvae

A novel protein most dogs have never encountered. Nothing for the immune system to react to.

Green banana powder

Supports gut health and digestion. Particularly useful for dogs with sensitive stomachs.

Peanut butter

This one is to add extra palatability through goodness. It is a treat, after all!

Sweet potato

Natural sweetness and added fibre. No synthetic fillers.

Eggs

A natural binder that adds secondary protein without common allergens.

Tapioca

The base that gives the treat its structure. Grain free, highly digestible, and neutral enough not to compete with the novel protein.

Honey

A small amount for natural sweetness. No added sugar.

Black soldier fly larvae oil

Cold-pressed from the same larvae as the protein. Adds lauric acid, which supports skin health and immune function.

High value

These treats are a huge hit with my dogs. Not only do they smell great, but they are also the perfect size for your training pouch. If you need a high value training reward that isn’t messy, this is it. Highly recommend and will buy again.

Really good size

Both of my German shepherds and my border collie absolutely love these treats!
It’s a really good size, they feel like it is an extra special treat since it is a bit bigger than some. I like to give them one before bed and they wait for them!

Frequently asked questions

Will my dog like the taste?

Most likely! We've had amazing palatability results. The good news is that if they don't, I'll refund you! I just ask that you donate the food to a neighbour or shelter so it doesn't go to waste

Can you see the insects?

Not in the dry food. You can't tell by looking at it that the protein is novel at all. But if you're interested in the Air Dried Whole Insect Protein Rewards, then YES! They are, as the title suggests, air dried insects. You get a compelte protein, tiny organs and all.

Is it safe for my dog?

Yes. The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) has added the Black Soldier Fly Larvae to its official list of approved feed ingredients for use in pet food. Our food is made in a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point certified facility and our insects are bred by farmers who have met the requirements of Feed Safe. The food is vet formulated and complete and balanced.

Not a question, but ICK!

Some humans feel this way. Your dog, on the other hand, doesn't care. It's just tasty meat to them. Start with the dry food, you can't tell.

My vet said to try a novel protein, does this count?

Yes — black soldier fly larvae is about as novel as it gets. Most dogs have never encountered insect protein before, which makes it one of the best proteins for allergic dogs.
