FAQ's

What is carbon-offset dining?

You’ve probably heard of the phrase 'carbon neutral'. Well, we aiming to go even further and become 'net carbon-positive’.

Essentially, being carbon-positive means we reduce more emissions than we release. For any organisation, some emissions are inevitable, so these emissions are offset.

We are positively offsetting through tree planting and through sustainable projects provided by the Australian company, Offsert.

How should I transition to carbon-positive dining?

The good news, is that the transition to carbon-positive dining will be an easy and enjoyable process for your dog. Dogs naturally seek to eat insects and have been consuming them for thousands of years. They can easily digest them and love their taste!

When introducing any new food to your dog’s diet, it is important to transition gradually. This will ensure your dog can adjust to new tastes, textures and nutrients. We recommend transition over the course of the week, starting with 25% ’new’ food, increasing to 50% after 4, days, and 75% after 6 days.

How long does a 5kg bag last?

Every dog’s appetite is different depending on size, age, condition and level of activity. If your dog looks overweight, reduce the current food intake by 10%. If your dog looks underweight, increase the current food intake by 10%. Continue this process until your dog is at the correct weight.

Generally speaking, a 5kg bag will last for one month for a dog that walks for 30 minutes a day and weighs 10-15kg. You’ll find a more detailed feeding guide on our packaging.

How do I know if insect protein is suitable for my dog breed?

Insect protein is suitable for all dog breeds! Studies have shown that it is as good or even better in terms of digestibility when compared to beef or chicken. Our premium dog food was formulated with a vet and a pet food nutritionist with over 20 years of experience in the pet food industry. The Feed For Thought recipe meets the stringent nutritional requirements published by AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials), a leading reference authority for pet food nutrition standards.

Great sustainable option

Our greyhound Sadie loves this food, and we love that she’s getting all the amino acids and protein she needs without eating meat or fish. Our family is meat-free for sustainability and cruelty reasons, and this dog food is such a great option for people like us.

We are long term supporters of Feed for Thought

Our German Shorthaired Pointer — a very active, happy and now healthy GSP — did better on Feed for Thought’s pretty much unadulterated soldier fly larvae based dry dog food than any other offering we could source at the time. As shared in previous reviews, we consider the owner an excellent business operator. She is not a fly-by-nighter (excuse the pun) and committed both to planetary care, dog care, and remaining in business in the long term. Try it. Only met one dog who wasn’t impressed by it. Met plenty of humans convinced their pooch would not be the slightest bit interested but then astounded by their dog’s enthusiasm. The dog food industry is predominantly all about biggest profit for least expenditure, with life expectancy therefore shorter and disease (and financial) burden higher. Of course, some of the larger pet food industry interests are now dipping their toes into this boutique soldier fly larvae feed source. I’m most pleased to stick with Alison’s product (and it is cheaper, too!).

Great for the planet, loved by my dogs

I have 6 dogs - a wolfhound, kelpie, two border collies and two pugs. They all love this food and lick their bowls clean. I can feed it to them knowing it’s good for them and the planet. And no cruel factory farming of cows, chickens, sheep or pigs involved. A win all around.
